The challenge
The primary challenge of this project was the combination of strict tolerances and significant site and programme constraints.
• The facade used a metallic PPC finish. Any inconsistency in colour or sheen would have been highly visible on such a prominent, uniform elevation.
• A strict programme dictated the required accuracy and pace of delivery, leaving little margin for delay or remedial work.

Results
LockMetal delivered the Kia Oval House Theatre and White House Hotel facade in line with the programme, with no reorders or wastage, and a high level of accuracy throughout.
We achieved a consistent metallic finish by bulk-purchasing the powder and carrying out all PPC work at a single coating unit. This avoided colour disparities between components and ensured a uniform appearance across interfaces and junctions.
As the only specialist willing to take responsibility for both the cladding and the associated steelwork, our single-source solution simplified coordination for Bennett Construction and reduced risk on a constrained, high-profile scheme.

The solution
LockMetal approached the project with a focus on precision, coordination, and buildability.
• Using Bennett Construction’s CAD files, we coordinated our design to suit the pre-cut SFS modules, achieving a tolerance within 3mm to ensure components aligned correctly on site.
• On installation, our team worked to an accuracy of +/- 2mm. Not a single panel needed reordering or amendment, and there was no material wastage – a key outcome on a tight programme and restricted site.
• When detailing the oriel windows, we collaborated with waterproofing, SFS, and precast concrete trades to refine interfaces and ensure we achieved the required performance.
• By getting the tolerances right up front and coordinating closely with others, we were able to maintain progress once facade works began, despite a strict programme.

Overview
Adjacent to the world-famous Oval cricket ground, the Kia Oval House Theatre and White House Hotel development saw us help bring new cultural and hospitality spaces to a tight, heavily constrained south London site.
LockMetal was appointed to design, supply, and install a coordinated cladding and steelwork package. The scope covered rainscreen cladding, steelwork, and perimeter details, designed and installed to tight tolerances and with a consistent metallic finish across the facade.
